It’s been almost four years since the release of Florence and the Machine’s thunderous sophomore album, Ceremonials, and the group doesn’t seem intent to dwell on the past. On “Ship To Wreck”, the opener from their upcoming effort How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, Flo and Co. ditches the echoing drums and grand scale instrumentals for a more traditional alt-rock approach. With a distinct powerhouse like Florence Welch taking lead vocals duties and singing over jangly, early ’90s guitars, it still sounds like the band (especially on the soaring choruses), but in a completely new arena. Their latest album arrives May 29, listen to the single above!
Fun Fact: “The Machine” in the group’s name refers to Isabella “Machine” Summers, Florence’s long-time producer and current bandmate.
